Survey: Frequent AI use doesn't ease American worries

A new Gallup survey commissioned by Microsoft reveals that 68% of Americans who use AI daily still worry about the technology, with concern even higher among less frequent users. The U.S. ranks as the most anxious among Western nations, as 74% of Americans express worry and only 36% expect AI to mostly help the country. The findings complicate the idea that adoption reflects public enthusiasm, as the study expands to 140 countries.

The Gallup survey, commissioned by Microsoft, polled roughly 1,000 people per country across 37 nations between April and July, with plans to expand to 140 countries. Notably absent from current results are India, Australia, and Malaysia. The study found that daily AI users in high-adoption countries like Singapore, Israel, and China showed greater trust in AI's accuracy, while less frequent users remained skeptical. Only 36% of all respondents trusted AI results "a lot," and in the U.S., just 45% of daily users expressed that confidence. Positive emotions like curiosity outweighed worry in 34 of 37 countries, with China, Singapore, and Kenya reporting the most positive sentiment.
