Ayra Starr Discusses New Album 'Starrgirl' and Moving to New York
Ayra Starr's new album 'Starrgirl' reflects her move to New York City and her acting debut, showcasing a range of genres from Afrobeats to dance-pop. The 16-track set includes collaborations with Leon Thomas, kwn, ZAYN, and Wizkid. Starr says the album allowed her to express that she 'exists in multitudes.'
Starrgirl arrived Aug. 14 through Mavin and Republic Records, following a rollout that included previously released tracks such as "Hot Body," "Gimme Dat" with Wizkid, and "Who's Dat Girl" featuring Rema. The album's artwork pairs a bodycon dress with a purple gele and laser beams, visually reinforcing the Afrofuturist themes woven throughout the project. Starr is also set to headline halftime at the London NFL game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 10, and she makes her acting debut in Gina Prince-Bythewood's Children of Blood & Bone next year.
