Ethereal Space has won a 24-month task order from NOAA worth approximately $27.4 million to supply commercial space-based environmental observations. The task order marks Ethereal Space's first operational contract under NOAA's ProTech 2.0 SBEM vehicle, a 24-month engagement valued at roughly $27.4 million. Data deliveries are slated to commence December 1, 2026, signaling a shift from system development toward sustained operational service.
Ethereal's sensor suite covers three observation types: GNSS radio occultation for atmospheric and ionospheric profiling, thermospheric neutral-density readings, and multispectral visible and infrared imaging. The company operates a growing small-satellite constellation and describes its work as converting raw measurements into actionable environmental intelligence for government and scientific customers.
This award could strengthen NOAA's ability to monitor atmospheric and space weather without relying solely on government-owned satellites. Commercial data streams may improve forecasting accuracy for ionospheric disturbances that affect GPS and communications, and for thermospheric density changes that influence satellite drag.
