Xiaomi Unveils 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max with Leica Cameras and HyperOS 4
Xiaomi has launched its 18 Pro series in China, comprising the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, both powered by Qualcomm's latest chipsets. The devices feature Leica-tuned triple rear cameras and run on Android 17-based HyperOS 4, with the Pro model offering a 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED display at up to 4000 nits peak brightness. The lineup is positioned to compete directly with the Vivo X500 Pro and OPPO Find X10 Pro.
The 18 Pro Max carries a notably larger 8500mAh battery versus the 7000mAh cell in the standard 18 Pro, with both supporting 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. Each device also includes a secondary AMOLED panel on the rear — 2.7 inches on the Pro and 2.9 inches on the Max — matching the main screens' refresh rate and brightness specifications.
Both phones share a Leica-tuned triple camera arrangement featuring 200MP primary and periscope telephoto sensors with optical stabilization, plus a 50MP ultrawide. The series arrives in four colorways and is positioned directly against the Vivo X500 Pro and OPPO Find X10 Pro, with the Pro Max's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset built on a 2nm process.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro series could intensify competition in the premium smartphone segment, particularly against Vivo and OPPO devices. The dual 200MP camera system and large batteries may appeal to photography-focused and heavy-use consumers, potentially pressuring rivals to accelerate their own camera and battery innovations. The secondary rear displays could also influence how manufacturers approach notification and quick-interaction features. However, pricing and regional availability will ultimately determine how broadly these devices reshape consumer choices in the flagship market.
