Drillposting: When Dril's absurd tweets meet gaming's drill-wielding heroes

After returning from Japan with jetlag, the author created 'Drillposting,' a series pairing Dril's absurd tweets with video game characters who use drills, from Deep Rock Galactic to Mr. Driller. The feature is a playful, nonsensical tribute to both Dril and drill-based gaming. It's a lighthearted piece born from a tired mind.

The piece originated from the author's jetlagged state after returning from Japan, where he had been covering the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct. In that exhausted condition, he conceived of pairing the absurdist tweets of the internet philosopher Dril with screenshots of video game characters wielding drills. The resulting series spans a wide range of games, from cooperative mining shooter Deep Rock Galactic to classic arcade titles like Dig Dug and Mr. Driller, as well as indie games such as Pepper Grinder and A Game About Digging A Hole. Each pairing presents a Dril quote alongside a drill-wielding character, creating a deliberately nonsensical tribute to both the tweet's deadpan humor and the recurring motif of drills in gaming.
