ANA Debuts Green Pokémon-Themed 787 for Hawaii Routes
All Nippon Airways unveiled a green Pokémon Boeing 787-9 on September 18, 2026, and flew it from Tokyo to Honolulu on its first revenue trip. This is the carrier's second Pokémon-themed aircraft this year, part of a collaboration to boost transpacific leisure travel. The airline also introduced Pokémon GO activities at 14 Japanese airports, offering exclusive in-game encounters tied to the new livery.
The aircraft, registered JA923A, will serve transpacific routes through late March 2027, with daily assignments confirmed only on the day of operation. The livery marks the second Pokémon-themed jet ANA has introduced this year under its ongoing Pokémon Air Adventures partnership.
Beyond the aircraft itself, the collaboration extends to mobile gaming. Fourteen Japanese airports now feature specially designed PokéStops and Gyms, where players can participate in Raid Battles and Timed Research. Those who join may encounter Pokémon carrying a Location Background tied exclusively to the Green Pokémon Jet promotion.
This collaboration could strengthen ANA's appeal among younger travelers and Pokémon enthusiasts, potentially boosting leisure bookings on Hawaii routes during the winter season. The airport-based Pokémon GO events may also draw visitors to regional Japanese airports, supporting local tourism economies. However, the promotional value depends on sustained fan engagement, and the airline's operational flexibility—with routes confirmed only on departure day—could create uncertainty for passengers planning around the themed aircraft.
