Live Football Comes to United's Starlink-Equipped Planes Through DISH Partnership

United Airlines has partnered with DISH to offer live professional and college football games on its Starlink-enabled seatback screens. The service is available on over 200 aircraft, covering about 700 flights daily, and will run through February. United plans to have Starlink on nearly 700 planes by then, with free access for MileagePlus members.
The service currently reaches more than 200 aircraft, translating to roughly 700 daily domestic flights, with broadcasts drawn from ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, FS1, ESPN, ESPN2, NFL Network, and TNF on Prime Video. United anticipates expanding Starlink coverage to nearly 700 planes by February, and the airline has already logged 464,000 flights carrying 31 million passengers across its Starlink-equipped fleet of 560-plus aircraft.
Beyond football, United has been broadening its inflight entertainment footprint. The carrier recently hosted a live fantasy football draft at 30,000 feet with ESPN analyst Tyler Fulghum, and streamed a major soccer tournament earlier this summer. Seatback screens are being installed across up to 1,000 aircraft by 2027, including new 27-inch 4K OLED displays, the largest among U.S. carriers, offering more than 2,500 hours of content.
This partnership could reshape how travelers experience long domestic flights, turning what was once dead time into a live sports viewing opportunity. Frequent flyers and MileagePlus members may benefit most, gaining free access to premium broadcasts that previously required personal devices or unreliable connections. The move may also pressure competing airlines to accelerate their own inflight entertainment upgrades, potentially raising expectations across the industry. Business travelers and sports fans alike could plan flights around game schedules, though the service's limitation to domestic routes through February means international travelers won't yet see the same benefit.
