Fourth Wing to Launch Tabletop Card Game 'Formations' in 2027

Rebecca Yarros' Fourth Wing series is being adapted into a tabletop card game called Fourth Wing: Formations, developed by WizKids. The game will let players act as generals organizing Navarre's forces using a 54-card deck with suits replaced by Riders, Scribes, and other elements. It is scheduled for release in 2027.
The game's design draws directly from Basgiath War College's four quadrants, with the traditional playing card suits swapped for Riders, Scribes, Infantry, and Healers. WizKids describes the core mechanic as a Fourth Wing variation on Kings in the Corner, where players coordinate these quadrants while defending Navarre. The 54-card deck doubles as a standard playing card set for conventional games, and the package includes 50 damage tokens, a rule sheet, and a travel pouch.
Retailer listings initially suggested a November 2026 launch, but WizKids' official page now points to a Q1 2027 window, with the date still subject to change. The game supports one to four players, with sessions lasting roughly 15 to 30 minutes and a recommended age of 10 and up. Preorders are available at $19.99, positioning it as an accessible entry point into the Empyrean universe compared to heavier tabletop experiences.
This release may broaden Fourth Wing's audience beyond its established romantasy readership, potentially drawing card-game enthusiasts and younger players into the franchise ahead of its Prime Video adaptation. The accessible price point and short play sessions could make it a gateway product for casual gaming groups, while existing fans may gain a new hands-on way to engage with the world. Its success could signal whether book-to-tabletop adaptations hold lasting appeal in the wider entertainment market.
