Shipping Containers Form Flexible Office for Spanish Seed Producer
Madrid-based Impepinable Studio has created a new workspace for seed company Agrosemillas using four repurposed shipping containers atop a concrete plinth. The design allows for flexible use that matches the seasonal demands of agricultural work, with double-height spaces and abundant natural light. The roof supports experimental crop growth, linking research and production.
The workspace occupies a 280-square-meter footprint atop a shared concrete base with neighboring industrial buildings. Four kelly-green containers, each opened on two sides, form a sawtooth roofline that channels northern daylight into the double-height interior. Mustard yellow appears throughout—in doorframes, circular porthole shutters, and modular USM Haller partitions that divide the open plan.
The project accompanies roughly 4,500 square meters of new production and storage space, with all three structures built using identical systems and local labor, including formwork carpenters and industrial construction specialists. The rooftop accommodates experimental crop plots, directly linking the company's research arm with its agricultural output.
This design could prompt other agricultural firms to reconsider how office spaces reflect seasonal work rhythms and company values. By demonstrating that repurposed materials can create functional, branded workplaces, it may encourage more rural businesses to invest in distinctive architecture despite limited resources. The integration of experimental growing space with office functions could also inspire closer ties between research and production in the ag-tech sector.
