Citizen's Limited GMT Watch Blends Damascus Steel and Forged Carbon
Citizen has announced a limited-edition Series 8 GMT watch featuring a Damascus steel case and forged carbon dial. The traveler GMT movement allows the local hour hand to be adjusted independently, and the watch is limited to 1,300 pieces. Priced at $2,200, it is scheduled for an October 2026 launch.
The Damascus steel case section is produced by layering multiple stainless steel sheets, yielding a distinctive wave pattern that varies from one piece to the next. The forged carbon dial likewise creates unique irregular textures through randomly distributed carbon-fiber strands, meaning no two watches will share an identical appearance.
The Caliber 9054 automatic movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour with 24 jewels and approximately 50 hours of power reserve. Citizen rates its magnetic resistance at 16,000 A/m and claims accuracy of -10 to +20 seconds daily under stationary testing. The case measures 41mm in diameter and 13.5mm thick, with sapphire crystal, luminous hands and indexes, a calendar, and 10-bar water resistance.
This limited release could appeal primarily to collectors drawn to unusual materials rather than travelers seeking practical functionality, given the $2,200 price and 1,300-piece run. The traveler GMT complication may genuinely benefit frequent cross-time-zone flyers, though the lack of GPS or radio sync limits its utility for some.
