Xiaomi Pad 9 Offers Strong Specs but Only in China for Now
The Xiaomi Pad 9 is an Android tablet with an 11.2-inch 3:2 display, Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor, and a 9,720mAh battery. It launched in China at CNY 2,999 (about $447) for the base model. However, Xiaomi has not confirmed any global release or pricing outside China.
The Pad 9's 3:2 screen ratio is a notable design choice, giving it more vertical space than typical 16:10 tablets. This makes it better suited for document reading and productivity tasks. The device also offers two memory configurations, with the higher tier providing 256GB of storage for users who need more room for offline content.
Xiaomi has positioned the tablet with accessories like a stylus and keyboard, though these add to the overall cost. The company's China-only launch means international buyers face uncertainty regarding Google services, warranty coverage, and charger compatibility. The 45W wired charging and reverse charging capability add flexibility, though the latter is best reserved for emergencies.
The Pad 9's China-only release could leave international Android users waiting or resorting to imports, which may carry risks around software support and warranty. If Xiaomi eventually expands availability, the tablet's mid-range pricing and productivity-focused display could pressure competitors in the budget-to-mid Android tablet segment. However, its impact remains limited until global distribution is confirmed.
