India's travel technology industry now spans multiple segments beyond traditional flight and hotel reservations, including mobility, visa processing, and AI-driven trip planning. The sector has attracted over $19 billion in cumulative funding across more than 260 funded startups, with the online travel market expected to reach $33.9 billion by 2030. Leading firms such as OYO and MakeMyTrip are broadening their services to capture new growth areas.
The sector's growth is reflected in its funding scale, with Inc42 tracking roughly 1,562 TravelTech startups, of which 261 have secured financing totaling over $19.2 billion. Market projections show the online travel segment expanding from approximately $23.1 billion in 2025 to $33.9 billion by 2030, indicating sustained investor confidence and consumer adoption.
Major players illustrate the diversification trend. OYO has accumulated about $3.71 billion in funding, extending beyond reservations into hotel management and franchising. MakeMyTrip's recent quarterly results showed gross bookings of $2.9 billion with strong growth in hotels and bus ticketing, while Rapido raised $240 million at a $3 billion valuation, and ixigo reported 544 million annual active users, demonstrating how mobility and AI are reshaping the competitive landscape.
This expansion could reshape how Indian travelers plan and fund their journeys, potentially making travel more accessible through integrated platforms that combine booking, transport, and financial services. Smaller players entering niche areas like visa processing and AI trip planning may increase competition and consumer choice. However, consolidation among well-funded giants could also narrow options over time, and the sector's reliance on continued investment means economic downturns could disproportionately affect newer entrants and the travelers who depend on their services.
