Publix Charities Makes Record $25 Million Hunger Relief Donation

Publix Super Markets Charities is donating $25 million to combat food insecurity across its operating area, a $10 million increase from last year. The funds will support over 350 local food banks and nonprofits, including 43 Feeding America partner food banks. More than 8,000 Publix associates are also volunteering during the company's annual Publix Serves Week.
The $25 million commitment represents a substantial escalation in the grocery chain's anti-hunger efforts, with the $10 million increase over last year's contribution reflecting heightened demand across its eight-state footprint. Feeding America data cited in the announcement indicates nearly 12 million residents in those states currently face food insecurity.
Beyond the financial commitment, the company's volunteer component mobilizes more than 8,000 associates across 150 nonprofit sites during Publix Serves Week. The funds will also enable partner food banks to purchase vehicles and make capital improvements, strengthening long-term distribution capacity. Since 2015, Publix Charities has invested over $103 million in hunger relief, supplemented by twice-yearly customer register campaigns, with the next drive scheduled for November.
This record donation could meaningfully ease pressure on food banks across the Southeast, where demand has strained nonprofit resources. The capital improvement component may provide lasting infrastructure benefits beyond immediate food distribution. For the roughly 12 million food-insecure residents in Publix's operating region, increased funding could translate to more consistent access to nutritious meals. The company's scale and volunteer engagement may also inspire other regional retailers to expand their philanthropic commitments, potentially reshaping corporate hunger-relief benchmarks.
