Denim Deal Partners With United Repair Centre to Boost Garment Repair

The Denim Deal initiative has announced a partnership with United Repair Centre, a social enterprise that provides repair services to brands like Patagonia and Levi's. Members will gain access to URC's Europe-wide repair expertise and a dedicated discount. This collaboration aims to strengthen the role of repair in the denim industry's circular economy goals.
The partnership arrives as Denim Deal pushes toward its 2030 target of producing one billion jean pairs containing at least 20 percent post-consumer recycled cotton. URC, which launched in Amsterdam in 2022, has completed over 100,000 repairs across more than 35 brands, employing 50-plus technicians at hubs in three European cities. Many of those workers are refugees who previously worked as tailors in their home countries, giving the repair operation a social dimension alongside its environmental mission.
URC's founder noted that quality repair work depends on consistent craftsmanship, reliable service and advanced technology. A Circular Fashion Federation study cited in the announcement projects the European "reinvent" segment — which encompasses repair and related services — could reach roughly 71 billion euros by 2030, underscoring the commercial potential of extending garment lifecycles.
This collaboration could shift how denim brands approach product longevity, potentially making repair services more accessible and affordable across Europe. Consumers may benefit from extended garment lifespans, reducing replacement costs over time. The social enterprise model also suggests employment opportunities for refugees and other marginalized workers, which could strengthen community ties. However, the impact depends on whether brands actively adopt these services and whether consumers embrace repair as a routine alternative to purchasing new items.
