SAS unveils expanded Copenhagen lounge with private zone for top flyers
SAS has revealed details of a new signature lounge at Copenhagen Airport's Terminal 3, set to open in June 2027. The 3,700-square-meter space will offer 40% more room than the current lounge, including 24 work pods, private hotel rooms, and a dedicated Exclusive Zone for its highest-tier frequent flyers. The design emphasizes Scandinavian aesthetics, with a bar, bakery, and digital occupancy monitoring to manage visitor flow.
The new lounge will be capable of hosting up to 4,000 visitors daily across 1,095 seats, with a single-floor layout divided into seven distinct zones covering eating, socializing, family needs, focus work, relaxation, silent rest, and sleep. Expanded shower facilities and hotel rooms address longer layovers, while a high ceiling and abundant natural light support the Scandinavian-inspired aesthetic.
Sustainability measures include reusing recycled SAS textiles and selected furniture from the airline's current Copenhagen lounge. The project follows SAS's broader premium travel investments, including the reintroduction of European business class and upgrades to partner lounges across Europe, positioning Copenhagen as a hub for the carrier's frequent flyer experience.
This investment could raise expectations among premium travelers for what airport lounges should offer, potentially pressuring competing airlines and hubs to expand their own facilities. Business travelers and frequent flyers may benefit most through improved productivity and comfort, while the reuse of materials could signal a modest industry shift toward more sustainable lounge construction—though such amenities remain accessible only to a limited, higher-spending segment of air travelers.
