Greenvolt starts building 600 MW battery storage project in Poland
Greenvolt Power has begun construction on the Siedlce battery energy storage system in Poland, which will have 600 MW/2.4 GWh of capacity. The project is part of Greenvolt’s 4.6 GW probability-weighted BESS pipeline, including about 2.4 GW in Poland, and is targeted for commercial operation by the end of 2027. BYD Energy Storage will supply the batteries, while P&Q supports engineering and construction and ONDE handles electrical infrastructure.
The project may strengthen Poland's grid flexibility as more renewables come online, helping manage supply and demand. Local communities could see construction jobs and infrastructure activity, while electricity users may benefit from more reliable power and potentially lower balancing costs over time. Battery suppliers, engineering firms, and grid operators are directly involved. However, benefits depend on timely completion, grid connection, and market rules.
