Bitdefender debuts disposable VPN for AI agents, limited to M-series Macs
Bitdefender has launched a public beta privacy tool designed for autonomous AI agents on macOS. It creates a temporary encrypted connection for each agent task and shuts it down once the task is complete. The tool uses a Model Context Protocol server architecture and currently works only on Apple M-series Macs.
Bitdefender's public beta is aimed at autonomous agents that browse, research, and transact for users. It creates a separate encrypted tunnel for each agent prompt, routes traffic through a VPN server address, and discards cookies, cache, and session state afterward. The company says this differs from always-on VPNs by activating only for an agent task and ending when that task finishes.
The tool relies on a Model Context Protocol server design and currently runs only on Apple M-series Macs. It supports up to four simultaneous exit locations, or eight in a recommended testing setup. Bitdefender plans to add more operating systems. It masks network transport and IP addresses but does not handle prompt content sent to AI providers.
This could affect everyday users who delegate browsing or transactions to AI agents, since separate temporary connections may reduce cross-task tracking and limit exposure of household IP addresses. It may also influence how developers and employers design agent permissions, encouraging clearer boundaries between people and automated helpers. Yet because it covers only network transport and IP masking, not prompt content, its societal benefit may depend on broader privacy practices and wider platform availability.
