DIYer Turns White Bedroom into a Forest-Inspired Dark Green Retreat

DIYer Danie Berger transformed a bright white primary bedroom into a dark green, cocooning space. She used Behr’s Alpine Trail paint, layered green tones, and a wallpaper accent wall. The makeover was for her sister-in-law and aimed to create a cozy respite after a personal loss.
Danie Berger, who shares DIY projects as @diyinprogress_, reworked a primary bedroom in a historic home. The room had broad wood floorboards, an angled ceiling, and two large windows. Its prior white walls and plain curtains felt unfinished, so she chose Behr’s Alpine Trail and carried green through bedding, art, and accents.
A green-and-black leafy peel-and-stick wallpaper covers one accent wall. Many furnishings came from IKEA, including a SONGESAND bed frame, VALLKRASSING pillow covers, DYTÅG curtains, a STRANDMON wing chair, and a RISBYN pendant shade. Berger lowered the bed and used related green shades to keep the room unified. The project was made for her sister-in-law after a loss.
This makeover may resonate with renters and DIY enthusiasts because peel-and-stick wallpaper and paint can be relatively accessible, reversible updates. It could encourage people navigating grief or major life changes to see bedrooms as restorative spaces. Designers and retailers might notice continued demand for dark, nature-inspired palettes and budget-friendly IKEA pieces. However, impact depends on budget, rental rules, and skill, so not everyone can replicate it.
