Gaggenau Unveils Cooling Line at Montreal Design Event
Gaggenau introduced its Vario cooling Expressive series in Canada during a dinner event with Menu Extra at Montreal’s Biodome on September 21. The collection offers flexible refrigeration units that can stand alone or be paired, with handleless doors and flush surfaces intended to blend into residential interiors. Architects, designers, industry figures and culinary guests attended the launch.
Gaggenau chose Montreal’s Biodome for the Canadian premiere of its Vario cooling Expressive line on September 21, pairing the reveal with a Menu Extra dinner. The venue, originally a 1976 Olympic Velodrome and later reworked by KANVA in 2021, houses five climate-controlled habitats, making it a fitting stage for appliances centered on temperature control.
The collection can be used as single units or combined, with doors without handles and surfaces set flush. Finishes include brushed dark stainless steel, anthracite aluminum, and glass. A wine climate cabinet with automatic tempering, offered in 18- and 24-inch widths, uses infrared sensors and Home Connect alerts to reach ideal serving temperatures.
The launch may reinforce a broader shift in high-end housing toward appliances that disappear into architecture, affecting architects, interior designers, retailers and affluent homeowners. It could influence how kitchens and wine storage are planned, perhaps making temperature precision and connected features more expected in premium renovations. For manufacturers, such products may strengthen competition around seamless design and smart-home integration, though their cost and niche positioning likely limit near-term reach beyond luxury markets.
