Expedia Trims 58 Seattle Jobs in Finance Reorganization
Expedia has filed a Washington WARN notice to eliminate 58 Seattle-based positions, with the cuts scheduled between November 21 and December 1. The reductions include senior executive roles and numerous data science and machine learning jobs, and the reorganization also affects Illinois and Florida. Expedia said the changes are part of streamlining its Global Finance organization, with some staff moving to new roles or locations while other positions are removed.
Expedia’s Washington filing covers 58 Seattle positions, with separations planned from late November through early December. The affected group includes senior leadership, and among 31 technical jobs, 18 sit in data science or machine learning. The company says the restructuring is concentrated in its Global Finance unit and also reaches workers in Illinois and Florida.
Some employees may shift into different roles or locations, while other jobs are being removed. Expedia described the move as an effort to simplify its finance organization and said it will support affected staff. The notice follows earlier reporting on a senior vice president role being cut.
The cuts could affect Seattle’s tech and finance labor market, especially workers with specialized data science and machine learning skills who may face competition for similar roles.
