Alpen brings USDC to Bitcoin for dollar borrowing without moving BTC

Alpen, in partnership with Circle, is integrating USDC on Bitcoin so BTC holders can borrow, lend, and trade dollars without moving their coins. The system uses zero-knowledge verification for EVM-compatible applications and CCTP for native USDC cross-chain movement. USDC will be issued by regulated Circle affiliates and available when Alpen's mainnet launches.
Alpen and Circle are working to place USDC within Bitcoin’s own environment. The setup is intended to let Bitcoin owners access dollar-based borrowing, lending, and trading while keeping their BTC on the Bitcoin network. It also aims to avoid common workarounds such as moving coins to another chain, using wrapped assets, or selling BTC outright.
The design combines zero-knowledge verification for EVM-compatible applications with Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol. That protocol is meant to move native USDC across supported networks without a wrapped version. Circle-regulated affiliates would issue the USDC, which is expected to arrive when Alpen’s mainnet goes live.
Bitcoin holders and businesses seeking dollar liquidity could gain more ways to borrow, lend, or trade without moving BTC, potentially reducing reliance on bridges and wrapped assets. That may lower some friction and risk for users, though it could also create new dependencies on stablecoin issuers, verification systems, and cross-chain infrastructure. Regulators, Circle affiliates, and application developers may influence who can access these services and under what conditions.
