A Dozen watchOS 27 Features Worth Trying on Your Apple Watch

Apple launched watchOS 27 on September 14, and the update brings changes to supported Apple Watch models beyond the newest Series 12 and Ultra 4. Users can find a separate Siri app, a new Siri watch face, a dynamic app grid, and an added Tap gesture. The update also removes Walkie-Talkie and notes that Live Rewind is not yet available.
Apple's September 14 release of watchOS 27 extends beyond the newest Series 12 and Ultra 4, reaching older supported watches. Installation runs through the iPhone Watch app's General > Software Update path, with the watch on its charger.
Among changes: a standalone Siri app that keeps conversations in one place and syncs via iCloud; a Siri modular face tied to Smart Stack; a suggested/recent app grid replacing the earlier default layout; and a Tap gesture opening highlighted Smart Stack widgets. Walkie-Talkie is removed, and Live Rewind remains unavailable.
The update may affect existing Apple Watch owners who rely on familiar controls, especially those using Walkie-Talkie or the App Switcher. Removing an app and reserving a gesture for a future feature could disrupt routines, while Siri changes and health-related cycle tracking may encourage more wrist-based AI and wellness use. Because some features depend on newer models or later software, benefits and frustrations could vary across users.
