Universal's calendar-year global haul has now crossed $5 billion, making it the first studio to do so in 2026, a threshold it previously reached in 2015 and 2017. This year's total was fueled by The Odyssey, Michael, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and Obsession, even without new entries in several legacy franchises.
The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan, is in its 11th weekend and has surpassed $1.5 billion. It ranks as Universal's largest release, Nolan's biggest film, and IMAX's top earner. Universal's 2026 slate still includes Other Mommy, Sense & Sensibility, Focker-in-Law, Violent Night 2, and Werwulf.
Universal's milestone could strengthen exhibitors' confidence in large-format, event-driven releases, while audiences may see more marketing around IMAX and premium screens.
