Pi Network Finishes Protocol 27 and Schedules Protocol 28 for October 16
Pi Network has completed its Protocol 27 Mainnet upgrade and plans to move to Protocol 28 on October 16, 2026. Node operators need to update their software by October 13. The PI token traded at $0.09115, up 4.29% in 24 hours and 7.2% over seven days.
Pi Network’s Protocol 27 Mainnet transition is complete after an earlier September 15 target slipped. It follows prior upgrades this year, including Protocol 26, and broadens how accounts and apps can approve smart-contract transactions. Although once described as the final step in that series, the project has since advanced Protocol 28 to Testnet.
Protocol 28 is set for Mainnet on October 16, 2026, with node operators asked to update by October 13. It is intended to improve handling of delayed transaction data, allow batch smart-contract upgrades, and offer safer stored-data changes. Pi’s Open Network began in February 2025, enabling outside connections and exchange integrations.
The upgrade could affect Pi node operators and developers first, since missed software deadlines may disrupt participation or application maintenance. If smoother smart-contract updates and data handling reduce friction, users and merchants may see more reliable transactions, though the token’s longer decline suggests market confidence remains fragile. Broader societal impact is likely limited unless Pi’s network gains wider adoption beyond its existing community and exchange access.
