Israeli Defense Industry Expands Presence in Morocco Ahead of Airshow
Morocco will host major Israeli defense firms at the Marrakech Airshow in October, as military cooperation between the two countries expands. Israeli companies are expected to offer air-defense systems, drones, precision weapons, and satellite technology, building on existing Moroccan purchases. The two sides also agreed in September to upgrade diplomatic missions to full embassies and appoint ambassadors.
Morocco’s October 7–10 airshow at the Royal Moroccan Air Force base in Marrakech will feature Israel Aerospace Industries, Elbit Systems, Rafael, Xtend and Uvision. They are expected to pitch air defense, drones, precision arms and satellite systems, seeking contracts and local partnerships.
Morocco already fields Israeli Heron and Hermes drones, a Barak 8 air-defense purchase reported near $500 million, and 36 Elbit ATMOS 2000 howitzers bought in 2025. It may also buy 8–12 PULS rocket launchers for about $150 million. IAI is tied to a roughly $1 billion Moroccan satellite project.
Closer Israeli-Moroccan defense ties could expand Morocco’s aerospace and defense sector, potentially creating skilled jobs and technology-transfer opportunities. They may also sharpen regional rivalry with Algeria and affect Western Sahara diplomacy. For ordinary citizens, the main effects could be indirect: shifts in military spending priorities, regional security perceptions, and Morocco’s diplomatic standing. Israeli firms may gain a gateway to African markets, while critics in Morocco or abroad could raise concerns about arms deals and civilian oversight.
