HERCS App Design Award Highlights User Feedback Decisions

HERCS is a strength-training app that works with an eBell motion sensor to identify exercises and count repetitions. It earned a Bronze A’ Design Award in Interaction Design for the 2025–2026 cycle and two Red Dot awards in 2025. Designer Luhan Rong concentrated on how the app communicates exercise feedback, rest prompts based on fatigue, and progress, with user research guiding two onboarding paths and a simplified workout screen.
HERCS is a strength-training app paired with an eBell motion sensor that identifies exercises and counts repetitions. Its recognition includes a Bronze A’ Design Award in Interaction Design for the 2025–2026 cycle and two Red Dot awards in 2025, spanning Design Concept and Brands & Communication Design.
Designer Luhan Rong focused on how the app conveys exercise feedback, fatigue-based rest prompts, and progress. User research led to two onboarding paths and a simplified workout screen. The A’ Design Award’s regular-entry deadline for the next cycle falls at the end of this month.
Clearer feedback and fatigue-aware rest cues in sensor-connected training apps could help users better understand effort and recovery, especially those exercising without a coach. Designers and award entrants may face greater pressure to document research and decision-making, not only final screens. If such practices spread, everyday fitness technology might become more usable and trustworthy, though benefits would depend on accurate sensing and thoughtful implementation.
