Samsung's One UI 9 rollout: supported Galaxy phones and timing
Samsung has begun distributing One UI 9, its Android 17-based interface, to Galaxy phones. The newest foldables ship with it, while the Galaxy S26 line started receiving it in South Korea and is reaching the US on T-Mobile with the S26 Ultra. The Galaxy S25 and Z7 series are next, though some models will wait longer.
Samsung’s One UI 9, built on Android 17, is arriving in stages. The Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8 already include it out of the box. The Galaxy S26 family began receiving it in South Korea on September 16, and T-Mobile’s S26 Ultra in the US followed on September 23. Unlocked S26 units and those on AT&T or Verizon are still waiting.
Next in line are the Galaxy S25 models and the Z Fold 7/Z Flip 7, with Samsung aiming for September. Later, undated updates are expected for S24, S23, Z Fold 6/5, Z Flip 6/5, many Galaxy A phones, tablets, and XCover devices. The S22 and S21 FE will remain on One UI 8 after their allotted four major Android version updates ended.
The staggered rollout may affect Galaxy owners unevenly, with newer and carrier-sold models getting AI features sooner while older devices remain unsupported. This could widen practical differences between users, especially those who rely on phones for work, accessibility, or daily coordination. It may also shape expectations around software longevity, as owners of aging handsets face feature gaps. Manufacturers and carriers could feel pressure to communicate timelines more clearly, though actual societal effects will depend on adoption and feature usefulness.
