Florian Hecker creates a one-off sound installation for Bottega Veneta's Milan runway
Bottega Veneta commissioned German artist Florian Hecker to create a site-specific pre-show sound work for its Spring/Summer 2027 runway in Milan. Titled Scintillations 20 (2026), the installation used 20 loudspeakers to fill Fabbrica Orobia with an atmospheric soundscape. The house later acquired one speaker for its archive, meaning the piece cannot be staged again.
Hecker’s Scintillations 20 (2026) was made for Bottega Veneta’s Spring/Summer 2027 presentation, staged at Milan’s Fabbrica Orobia on 26 September 2026. It used twenty speakers and stainless steel reflectors to create a soft, diffuse audio environment, with computer-generated sounds drawn from varied synthesis approaches. The artist said he was interested in how listeners locate sound, especially when visual and acoustic cues diverge.
The event continued Louise Trotter’s pattern of bringing art into her Bottega Veneta shows. Earlier examples include Murano glass seating by 6:AM and the Bottega Veneta for the Arts series, launched in April with Peter Fraser. The runway space also included resin stools by Illya Goldman Gubin, each topped with a leather flower from the house’s atelier.
This collaboration could broaden public awareness of sound art by placing it within a high-profile fashion event, reaching audiences who might not seek out experimental audio work. Its deliberate non-repeatability may also prompt brands, artists and institutions to think differently
