Overnight Russian strikes leave 14 dead, 57 wounded in Ukraine; Odesa hit hard
Russian forces carried out overnight attacks across Ukraine on Sept. 27, killing at least 14 people and wounding 57, according to local officials. Odesa Oblast was hit in what the regional governor described as a mass strike, with damage to homes, a medical site, a hotel, a shop, and grain storage. Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russia launched 170 Shahed-type drones and said air defenses downed or suppressed 147, while strikes occurred at 18 locations.
Regional officials also reported losses beyond Odesa. Zaporizhzhia saw four deaths and five injuries, Donetsk three deaths and five injuries, and Sumy two deaths with 28 injuries, four of them children. Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv each counted two deaths, while drone strikes in Kyiv injured five people.
The Air Force described an overnight wave of 170 drones of the Shahed type, including 76 jet-powered variants, plus decoys. Defenses neutralized 147, yet impacts were recorded in 18 areas and wreckage landed in eight. Zelensky said the previous week saw more than 2,200 attack drones, roughly 1,650 aerial bombs, and 38 missiles.
