Cecabank to leave Euribor panel as ESMA sees no benchmark risk

Cecabank will withdraw from the Euribor contributor panel on 30 September 2026. ESMA and national supervisors concluded the exit does not undermine the benchmark's representativeness. Four new banks have joined the panel since 2022, most recently KBC Bank in May 2026.
Cecabank, a Spanish lender, will stop contributing to Euribor on 30 September 2026. After that date, it will no longer send daily submissions of transaction data used by EMMI, the benchmark administrator, to calculate the rate.
Before the exit, ESMA and National Competent Authorities in the Euribor College of Supervisors reviewed its effect. They determined that the benchmark’s representativeness remains intact. Since 2022, four banks have joined the panel, with KBC Bank the newest in May 2026.
Euribor influences mortgages, corporate loans, and many financial contracts across the eurozone, so panel changes may matter to borrowers, lenders, and investors. Because supervisors found no representativeness risk, disruption could remain limited. Still, continued panel expansion may help sustain confidence in the benchmark, affecting how predictably everyday borrowing costs are set.
