Jack Rooke working on comedy Spice Girls biopic
Jack Rooke, the creator of Big Boys, has said he is developing a comedic drama about the Spice Girls. He told the Sidetracked With Annie And Nick podcast that a script has been written with a small team, though the project has not been greenlit and talks are ongoing. Rooke said he hopes the group will approve and compared the idea to Sam Mendes' planned Beatles films.
Rooke is a BAFTA-winning writer best known for Channel 4's semi-autobiographical comedy Big Boys, which ended after three seasons in 2025. He discussed the Spice Girls idea on BBC Sounds' Sidetracked With Annie And Nick, where he sat in for Nick Grimshaw beside Annie Macmanus.
The group previously appeared together in 1997's Spice World, a musical comedy with cameos including Elton John, Stephen Fry and Meat Loaf. A reported 2021 sequel idea did not move forward, while Melanie C has said a biopic would suit the band's story.
If greenlit, a comedic Spice Girls film could reach fans of the group and viewers of Rooke's work, mixing nostalgia with a lighter take on fame.
