Adelina Mitchell to Return to George Mason as Alumni Performer for ARTS by George!
George Mason University’s College of Visual & Performing Arts will host its annual ARTS by George! benefit on October 3, headlined by Jeff Goldblum and The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra. Adelina Mitchell, a 2019 CVPA alum and current Elphaba standby on the North American tour of Wicked, will serve as the alumni performer. She spoke with DC Theater Arts about returning to campus and developing her career in the DC region.
George Mason University’s College of Visual & Performing Arts will present its yearly ARTS by George! fundraiser on October 3 at the Fairfax campus. Jeff Goldblum and The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra top the bill, while proceeds aid student scholarships, CVPA, the Mason Community Arts Academy, Green Machine Ensembles, and Great Performances at Mason.
Adelina Mitchell earned a 2019 theater degree from CVPA and now covers Elphaba on Wicked’s North American tour. She will appear as the alumni performer. Before GMU, she transferred from Tallahassee State College in 2016; she later spent roughly four years working professionally in DC, including at Signature Theatre and Olney Theatre Center.
The benefit may strengthen access to arts education by funding scholarships and programs, potentially benefiting students and local audiences. Mitchell’s return could offer current CVPA students a visible example of a regional theater career leading to national touring work. Her DC roots may also reinforce perceptions of the area as a launching ground for performers. Goldblum’s headline appearance could draw broader public attention and support for campus arts initiatives.
