Beshear defends transgender sports veto as RNC criticizes his record
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear defended his 2022 veto of a bill that would have barred transgender students from girls’ and women’s sports. The GOP-led legislature overrode the veto. Beshear said the Kentucky High School Athletic Association already had rules addressing fairness concerns.
He also vetoed separate 2023 legislation, Senate Bill 150, which covered transgender medical care for minors and school restroom, locker room, and shower policies.
