Bitcoin Defends $84K as Record ETF Inflows Counter Yield Shock

Bitcoin ended the final full week of September 2026 near $84,800, holding above the $84,000 support level after a Monday rally to $87,397. Record weekly net ETF inflows of $2.39 billion helped absorb selling pressure even as 10-year Treasury yields peaked at 5.18%, a 19-year high. The asset also closed above its 50-week simple moving average at $78,788 for the first time in 45 weeks, a possible sign of a shift from bearish to bullish conditions.
During the week, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs logged seven straight days of net inflows, totaling $2.39 billion. BlackRock’s IBIT led with $1.157 billion, Fidelity’s FBTC added $701.6 million, and ARK 21Shares’ ARKB contributed $294.7 million. Daily inflows slowed from $999 million on Monday to $134.5 million by Friday. Year-to-date flows turned positive at $886.8 million, reversing a $5.8 billion mid-July shortfall.
Corporate buyers also absorbed supply: Strategy purchased 950 BTC after a two-week pause, while Strive added 1,355 BTC. Galaxy Research noted that 11 of 13 prior 50-week moving-average reclaims since 2011 preceded cyclical bear bottoms, though Alex Thorn cautioned that one weekly close needs confirmation through consecutive closes.
The week’s resilience may shape how institutions view Bitcoin as a diversifier when rates spike. ETF and corporate buyers could deepen mainstream access, but also concentrate influence among large asset managers. Retail holders may face sharper swings if macro yields stay elevated. Broader society may see more crypto-linked financial products, with risks around volatility and leverage affecting less-experienced investors.
