OKX adds sign-up rewards and account protection for European users

OKX is offering up to €400 for registration and an 8% bonus on USDT deposits converted to USDC until October 8, 2026. Since September 22, OKX Shield has provided account protection up to €100,000 for standard verified EEA retail clients, with higher limits for VIP tiers and no subscription fee. The coverage applies when a third party gains access to an account and withdraws funds, subject to discretionary approval.
OKX Shield is described as available from 22 September for verified retail clients in the EEA, including VIP users. It has three maximum coverage levels: €100,000 for standard accounts, €250,000 for VIP 1–3, and €500,000 for VIP 4–6. These are caps, not guaranteed payouts. Activation involves account scanning, required safeguards such as a passkey, facial verification, blocked web withdrawals, accepting terms, and keeping Active status.
The program addresses unauthorized access—through phishing, malware, or a platform security incident—where funds are withdrawn without consent. Claims are reviewed discretionarily, and OKX states Shield is not an insurance policy or deposit guarantee. Separately, an ABE-BCE report cited €4.2 billion in EEA payment fraud in 2024, up from €3.5 billion in 2023.
European crypto users could see stronger incentives to open exchange accounts and adopt safeguards like passkeys and facial verification. If approved, discretionary reimbursements may help some victims of unauthorized withdrawals, but caps and case-by-case review mean users may still bear risk. The offer may also raise awareness of phishing and malware, though it could create a perception of guaranteed safety. Overall, such private protections may complement, rather than replace, broader fraud-prevention efforts across the EEA.
