Designer Gives a Blank Office a Sophisticated Barbie Makeover
A designer turned an empty room in a newly built spec home into a Barbie-inspired office for a client who collects dolls. The design uses fashion-inspired fabrics and finishes, including tweed, bouclé, plaid, floral, faux fur, sparkle, and leather, without changing the architecture. The room also supports LEGO building, lounging, and displaying collections.
Austin designer Lindsie Davis of Blueberry Jones Design reworked an empty office in a newly built spec home for a client who gathers dolls. She kept the architecture untouched and drew cues from high-fashion Barbie UNO cards, translating outfits into tweed, bouclé, plaid, floral, faux fur, sparkle, and leather.
The layout combines work, LEGO construction, lounging, and collection display. A central zone includes an Aronson Woodworks ash table, blue sofa, movable ottomans, Global Views apothecary cabinets, and a Four Hands rug. A fluted white desk, Worlds Away lamp, and wall-mounted TV sit in a corner. A pastel rainbow "claize" table and pink ombré wall covering tie the palette together.
