Haggar Marks 100 Years With Expansion Plans

Haggar is marking its centennial, having been founded in 1926 and now owned by Randa Apparel & Accessories. The company says it holds the top U.S. position in dress pants, suit separate pants, sport coats and suit separate jackets, with annual sales above $750 million. It is looking to international growth, brand extensions and possibly a higher-end collection.
Haggar began in 1926. Founder J.M. Haggar, born in Lebanon, left at 14 in 1906, reached Mexico, sold overalls while traveling, then settled in Dallas and launched a trouser company. It started with four workers, two sewing machines and one room; two years later it made 75,000 pants.
The firm introduced early hemmed trousers, stretch waists, washable suits, wrinkle-resistant pants, suit separates and a recyclable dress pant. It patented more than 50 ideas, trademarked "slacks" in 1938, advertised in print and TV early, and has supplied the Pro Football Hall of Fame Gold Jacket since 1978.
Haggar's next-century plans could affect shoppers, retail partners and garment workers as the brand seeks international markets and new product lines. A possible higher-end collection may alter how consumers perceive its value and pricing, while extensions could draw younger or broader audiences. If successful, the centennial push may strengthen Randa's portfolio and keep a long-standing American menswear name culturally visible; if not, it may test brand loyalty and retail shelf space.
