Avelo grows McKinney service with new Denver route and more flights
Avelo Airlines plans four additional routes from McKinney National Airport (DTX), including its first service to Denver. The new flights will connect DTX with Atlanta, Denver, Nashville, and New Orleans beginning in mid-December. McKinney is the Dallas area's third commercial airport and will begin passenger service in November.
Avelo will add four McKinney routes: Atlanta and Denver four days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday) from Dec. 16, plus Nashville and New Orleans twice weekly (Thursday, Sunday) from Dec. 17. Denver becomes a new point on Avelo’s network. McKinney National (DTX) received federal clearance for commercial flights on Sept. 26.
DTX sits about 35 miles from DFW and Love Field, the homes of American and Southwest. Avelo’s first DTX flights start Nov. 11 to Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Las Vegas, Orlando and Tampa. By December, Avelo expects three 186-seat 737-800s based there; no other carrier has announced DTX service.
The added service could give Dallas-area travelers, particularly those near McKinney, more low-cost options and reduce reliance on DFW and Love Field. It may also bring new spending and jobs to the northern suburbs, while adding traffic and noise for nearby residents. Competition could pressure fares on some routes, though the effect may be limited until more airlines enter DTX.
