Metro 2033 and Last Light Receive Native PS5 Versions with Enhanced Graphics and DualSense Features

4A Games has confirmed that Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux are getting dedicated PS5 versions launching on October 29, 2026, available as a free upgrade for existing owners. The new versions will deliver true 4K at 60fps or upscaled 4K at 120fps, enhanced lighting and particle effects, full DualSense controller support with adaptive triggers, and hardware-level rendering improvements. This native PS5 release prepares players for the franchise's next entry, Metro 2039, arriving in February 2027.
The confirmation comes after initial speculation based on entertainment software rating board filings discovered in early October. These releases represent a strategic effort to modernize the first two installments in the franchise, which originally debuted on PlayStation 3 before receiving enhanced versions for PS4. The timing aligns with the franchise's roadmap, positioning these remastered titles as a bridge to the upcoming sequel launching in early 2027.
The technical upgrades leverage current-generation hardware capabilities, including support for advanced controller feedback systems and dynamic resolution options. Players maintaining their existing libraries will automatically receive access to these enhanced iterations, removing any financial barrier to experiencing the improved versions.
This initiative could influence player engagement patterns as the franchise prepares for its next major release. Existing fans may revisit earlier entries with modernized visuals, potentially extending the franchise's cultural visibility during a crowded gaming season. Publishers increasingly use backward compatibility and free upgrades as strategies to build momentum for upcoming releases, and this approach demonstrates how legacy titles can serve as marketing tools. The availability of the entire series on current hardware may broaden accessibility for newer audiences unfamiliar with the franchise's earlier work.
