Mattel's First-Ever Branded Water Park Coming to Bellevue in 2027

Bellevue will be home to the world's first Mattel Wonder Indoor Water Park, a 100,000-square-foot facility opening in late 2027 featuring Mattel-branded attractions like a Hot Wheels slide tower and Barbie activity pool. The project will anchor Bellevue's Good Life District, with adjacent plans for retail, residential, lodging, and entertainment development across 35 acres. Additional Mattel water parks are planned for Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, and another unnamed North American location.
Mattel's expansion into experiential entertainment represents a significant diversification for the toy manufacturer. The Bellevue facility serves as the flagship location for what appears to be a multi-state rollout, with five total parks planned across the United States. The 100,000-square-foot indoor venue will leverage iconic Mattel properties to create immersive attractions, transforming branded intellectual property into destination-worthy leisure experiences.
The Good Life District development demonstrates how entertainment anchors can catalyze broader regional growth. Beyond the water park itself, the surrounding 35 acres will accommodate mixed-use development including accommodations, shopping, and dining. This approach mirrors successful entertainment-driven development strategies, positioning Bellevue to capture tourism spending and extend visitor stays beyond single attractions.
This expansion could reshape family entertainment spending patterns in regions hosting these facilities. Local hospitality, retail, and food service sectors may experience increased demand from visitors attending the water parks. The model may influence how established consumer brands approach physical retail and entertainment, potentially encouraging similar branded destination venues. However, success will depend on visitor volumes, pricing structures, and competition from existing regional attractions.
