Wholesaler Parfetts Expands Retail Network to 41 Stores From New Southampton Hub

Employee-owned wholesaler Parfetts has established over 40 affiliated stores across southern England during the first year of operations at its Southampton depot, which serves as the company's ninth regional distribution center. The expansion includes the opening of the chain's first Go Local Extra store in London and delivery services reaching more than 500 customers across 29 postcode areas from Dorchester to East Sussex. Parfetts plans to continue investing in staff and expanding its retailer network across the south coast and Greater London region.
Parfetts operates as an employee-owned wholesaler supplying independent retailers through a network of regional distribution centers. The Southampton facility, which became operational in 2025, represents the company's ninth depot and serves as its primary hub for the southern regions. The operation employs retail development advisers and area managers who work directly with affiliated store owners to support their business operations and expansion.
The wholesaler's growth model focuses on building relationships with independent retailers rather than operating company-owned chains. The introduction of Go Local Extra branded stores indicates the company's strategy of offering retailers a recognizable fascia while maintaining operational autonomy. The delivery network now reaches hundreds of weekly customers across a broad geographic footprint stretching from the West Country to the Essex coast.
This expansion could strengthen competition in the independent retail supply sector, potentially offering store owners greater choice among wholesalers. Smaller retailers in southern England may benefit from increased local availability of stock and delivery services, which could improve their ability to compete with larger chains. The creation of new staff positions and the company's stated recruitment plans may contribute modestly to employment in the region, though broader impact depends on whether this growth represents market expansion or consolidation among existing suppliers.
