Quest Water Partners with NBA Africa on Infrastructure Initiative in Congo

Quest Water Global and NBA Africa announced a multiyear partnership to construct or renovate 55 basketball courts across the Democratic Republic of the Congo by 2030 in tribute to the late Dikembe Mutombo. Quest Water will serve as the official Infrastructure Development Partner for the NBA in the DRC, with the first court unveiled in Kinshasa on September 29 and additional courts planned for Mutombo's hometown of Mbuji-Mayi. The initiative includes both full-size and 3-on-3 courts to support basketball development in the region.
Quest Water Global, a water solutions company, has secured a prominent role as the NBA's official infrastructure partner in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The partnership extends beyond basketball court construction to encompass youth development initiatives, as evidenced by the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA coaching clinic held during the inaugural court unveiling that engaged 80 local coaches in the Kinshasa community.
The initiative deliberately connects to Mutombo's personal history, beginning at the specific venue where he first played organized basketball before his eventual path to the NBA. Plans for additional courts in Mbuji-Mayi acknowledge his roots in that region, suggesting the partnership intends to create meaningful presence across multiple Congolese communities rather than limiting infrastructure development to a single urban center.
The collaboration could generate measurable benefits for youth in participating communities through expanded access to sports facilities and coaching training. Quest Water's involvement alongside the NBA may bring attention to broader infrastructure needs in the DRC beyond athletics. However, the initiative's long-term impact may depend on factors including maintenance capacity, local stakeholder engagement, and whether sports development translates into sustained educational or economic opportunities for participants. The partnership demonstrates one corporate model for combining brand visibility with community-oriented programming.
