Renewable Developer Alight Expands Nordic Portfolio With Swedish Solar Acquisition
Alight has completed the acquisition of 40 large-scale solar projects totaling approximately 2 GW of capacity from Soltech Energy Solutions in southern Sweden, with most projects offering co-located battery storage options. The developer will advance these projects through permitting and grid connection phases before constructing and operating them under long-term power purchase agreements with commercial and industrial customers. This transaction brings Alight's total solar and storage development pipeline across the Nordic region to more than 5 GW.
Alight's acquisition represents a significant expansion of its renewable energy footprint in Scandinavia. The company now oversees development of over 5 GW across the Nordic region following this transaction and an earlier purchase of Finnish solar capacity. The Swedish portfolio spans two major electricity zones and includes integrated battery storage capabilities at most sites, positioning the developer to deliver both generation and grid stability services.
The acquired projects remain in early development phases, requiring completion of environmental permitting and connection to the electrical grid before construction begins. Alight's development model emphasizes long-term commercial partnerships, with electricity sold directly to business customers under fixed-price agreements rather than through volatile wholesale markets. This approach provides revenue certainty while potentially offering corporate buyers predictable renewable energy costs.
This expansion could strengthen Sweden's renewable energy capacity at a time when European nations are accelerating decarbonization efforts. The integration of battery storage may help address grid management challenges in regions with variable power supply. For participating commercial and industrial customers, the arrangement may reduce exposure to energy price volatility while supporting their sustainability commitments. The transaction's scale suggests growing investor confidence in Nordic renewable infrastructure and long-term demand from businesses seeking renewable electricity solutions.
