Don Toliver Reflects on Drake Collaborations From ‘HABIBTI (FOMO)’ Deluxe
Don Toliver spoke about his two collaborations with Drake, 'Cold Shoulder' and 'Solar Eclipse,' which appeared on Drake’s HABIBTI (FOMO) deluxe on Oct. 2. He said the experience fulfilled a long-held goal, citing his admiration for Drake’s earlier releases. 'Solar Eclipse' interpolates Ella Langley’s 'Choosin’ Texas,' and both tracks first premiered during Drake’s FOMO stream in September.
Toliver’s year has already brought a chart-topping Billboard 200 album, an arena trek, and now two Drake features. “Cold Shoulder” and “Solar Eclipse” arrived on Drake’s HABIBTI (FOMO) deluxe on Oct. 2 after first appearing during his September FOMO stream; “Solar Eclipse” also borrows from Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas.”
Speaking at a Grammy Museum event in Los Angeles on Oct. 6, Toliver said the Drake link-up fulfilled a long-held wish. He cited Comeback Season-era Drake and So Far Gone as favorites, and called “Solar Eclipse” the kind of collaboration he had hoped for. His OCTANE album and Yeat team-up “Griddle” have also charted.
The release could strengthen Toliver’s mainstream profile by placing him beside Drake, while exposing Drake’s audience to his catalog. Because “Solar Eclipse” draws on Ella Langley’s country hit, it may also encourage cross-genre discovery among hip-hop and country listeners. Chart watchers and streaming platforms may see added attention around the deluxe, though the long-term cultural effect will depend on how audiences receive the tracks beyond initial fan curiosity.
