Mizuho Securities Taps HPE for Liquid-Cooled Simulation Infrastructure

Mizuho Securities will build a direct liquid-cooling-ready data center and deploy HPE's Cray XD2000 system to support financial simulations and future AI initiatives. The infrastructure is meant to handle more than 360 million calculations per day for derivatives pricing and market and counterparty credit risk. Installation starts this fall, with production planned for mid-2027.
Mizuho Securities’ Global Markets unit serves clients in Japan and abroad with bonds, equities, and derivatives. Its pricing and risk work already exceeds 360 million daily calculations, a figure that has been rising annually.
The planned facility is designed for direct liquid cooling, and HPE Services will handle monitoring and maintenance. HPE says this cooling approach can lift performance per kilowatt by as much as 20% versus air cooling while cutting power use by 15%. Installation begins this fall, with production targeted for mid-2027.
If the system performs as intended, faster derivatives pricing and risk checks could help Mizuho Securities respond more quickly to market shifts, potentially affecting clients, counterparties, and broader financial-market stability. The project may also normalize liquid cooling in finance, influencing how data centers manage energy use as AI and simulation demands grow. Those benefits could depend on execution, cost, and whether the added computing capacity improves risk management in practice rather than mainly expanding trading capacity.
