Sui Offchain Tunnels Reach 40.6 Million TPS in AI-Agent Test
Sui’s offchain tunnels reached a peak of 40,614,180 transactions per second in a live Singapore stress test that simulated high-frequency activity among AI agents. More than 10,000 tunnels were opened on Sui mainnet, and the result topped the roughly 6.1 million TPS recorded in a July test. CertiK served as independent auditor and is reviewing the data, with a report expected in the coming days.
During a Wednesday demonstration at Sui Basecamp in Singapore, Sui’s programmable offchain tunnels hit 40,614,180 TPS. The exercise modeled rapid interactions among AI agents and surpassed the approximately 6.1 million TPS seen in July. Over 10,000 tunnels were launched on Sui mainnet, supporting payments, gaming, and chat use cases.
These tunnels operate as programmable channels: activity occurs away from the chain, then settles on Sui when a channel closes, reducing direct blockchain load. Mysten Labs’ Adeniyi Abiodun framed AI-agent payments as a target use case. CertiK audited independently and is reviewing results, with a report due soon.
If such throughput becomes practical, AI-driven services, payment providers, game operators, and their users could see faster, lower-friction microtransactions. Offchain settlement may reduce congestion and costs, but also raises questions about oversight, security, and reliance on auditors. Consumers might benefit from smoother automated commerce, while developers and regulators may need new tools to monitor activity that only periodically touches the main chain.
