Tether and Kazakhstan Sign Deal to Study Tenge Stablecoin and Tokenized Assets
Tether, Kazakhstan’s National Bank and the Alatau City Authority signed an agreement to examine a tenge-backed stablecoin and pilot tokenized real-world assets in Alatau. The work will cover issuance models, reserve management, transaction transparency and use of Tether’s Hadron platform for asset tokenization. Kazakhstan has advanced several digital-asset programs, including a 65-measure plan and a national strategic crypto reserve reported at $700 million.
Tether, Kazakhstan’s National Bank and Alatau City Authority signed a memorandum to explore a stablecoin tied to the tenge and a tokenized real-world asset pilot in Alatau. The work includes issuance models, reserve practices, transaction transparency and possible use of Tether’s Hadron platform.
Kazakhstan has pursued digital-asset initiatives, including a 65-measure plan across 10 areas, a national strategic crypto reserve reported at $700 million, 34 sandbox-tested projects, and government holdings of 3,544 Bitcoin worth about $294 million. It also ranked among 2025’s ten largest Bitcoin-producing countries.
A tenge-linked stablecoin and tokenized assets could affect Kazakh consumers, businesses, banks, miners, regulators. If piloted, it may lower settlement friction, improve transparency, or expand access to digital finance. It could also raise concerns about reserve oversight, financial stability, and reliance on private infrastructure. Benefits and risks may depend on safeguards, adoption, and regulatory design.
