Brendan Hunt Discusses Whether Ted Lasso Will Return for Season 5
After Ted Lasso season 4 ended with major changes at AFC Richmond, co-creator Brendan Hunt said the team has hoped for more episodes but no season 5 has been confirmed. He noted that Jason Sudeikis has not indicated whether another season will happen, and that the show could end with season 4 if necessary. Hunt also mentioned unresolved storylines that could be explored in a future season.
After season 4, AFC Richmond changed. Ted stepped down as women's team manager; Alice took over, with Ted assisting Coach Beard. Roy accepted Chelsea's manager job while he and Keeley prepared for parenthood. Rebecca proposed to Matthijs.
Brendan Hunt, co-creator and Coach Beard actor, told Variety the team had hoped for more episodes. He said Jason Sudeikis has not signaled a fifth season, and a fourth-season ending would be acceptable. Hunt cited possible threads: Ted and Beard as peers, Roy and Keeley parenting, Rebecca's marriage, the pub's new operators, Alice leading the team, and Mae Green's death.
A fifth season could extend fan engagement and streaming subscriptions, while its absence may lead viewers to treat season 4 as a finale. Cast and crew may face career-planning uncertainty. The show's themes of friendship, workplace change, and community may keep shaping cultural conversations, though impact depends on whether another season is made.
