Vivo Brings Mixed-Reality Headset Demos to India Without Launch Date
Vivo is letting people in India try its Vision Discovery Edition mixed-reality headset at 15 stores across 10 cities, but it has not announced a price or release date. The 398-gram device uses dual Micro-OLED displays with 8K binocular resolution and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform. Vivo says the demo program does not guarantee that the headset will go on sale in the country.
Vivo introduced the Vision Discovery Edition at its NEXT 2026 event on October 6, 2026. The company set up 15 demo locations in Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Coimbatore, Indore, Dehradun, Delhi, Patna, Kolkata, Nagpur, and Mumbai. The trial period runs until January 5, 2027, though Vivo notes terms and availability may shift.
The 398-gram headset pairs dual Micro-OLED screens with 8K binocular output and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip. It supports eye and hand input via OriginOS Vision, spatial audio, and a Cinema Mode that mimics a 120-foot screen. Vivo also offers four light-seal sizes and eight foam padding choices. X Fold6 owners may get priority walk-in access with proof of device or purchase.
The in-store trials could let Indian shoppers, developers, and retailers gauge mixed-reality comfort and usefulness before any purchase. If Vivo eventually launches the headset, early exposure may influence adoption, app interest, and competition in spatial computing. Because pricing and availability remain unconfirmed, the program may mainly build awareness rather than drive near-term sales. People with vision or mobility needs could benefit if fit and interaction options prove accessible, though actual impact depends on a commercial release.
