Meadow motifs shape Coworth Park’s redesigned stable suites

Martin Hulbert Design has renovated the stable rooms, suites and cottages at Coworth Park, a Dorchester Collection property near Ascot. The scheme draws on the estate’s wildflower meadows through botanical linens, hand-forged details, resin table tops and pressed clay reliefs. Hulbert, whose studio worked on the hotel’s original interiors, aimed to respect that legacy while updating the spaces for the future.
Coworth Park occupies 240 acres near Ascot, with polo fields, a spa and Adam Smith's restaurant, Woven. Hulbert's studio helped create its original interiors over fifteen years ago; this return included design directors Jay Grierson and Emma Webster. Existing oak floors and repainted wardrobes remain, alongside storm-felled walnut joinery and reused leather upholstery tied to the estate's equestrian life.
Seasonal colors run through mohair upholstery and handwoven wool rugs, while fabric-lined bedrooms feel warmer. Studio floral drawings became block-printed linen for walls and curtains; dried blooms sit in resin tables and pressed clay bathroom reliefs. MHD commissioned art by Miles Cole, Catherine Reynolds and Hannastina Crick. Terri Crow helped plan cottage gardens and yew-hedged garden rooms.
This renovation may reinforce demand for nature-inspired, heritage-sensitive hospitality, potentially benefiting local artisans, craftspeople and suppliers of bespoke textiles, joinery and art. Guests seeking restorative country escapes could find more immersive design, while the emphasis on reused materials and meadow motifs may gently influence other hotels to consider sustainability and place. Local tourism and nearby businesses around Ascot could also see modest gains, though effects likely remain concentrated among affluent travelers.
